Regarding your Cart Before the Cloud episode, have you seen what's happening with OnLive lately? It's damn exciting! I get the full range of games on my friggin' PHONE (Xperia Play, natch). They've got their own console that costs a fraction of the price of anyone else's, their Playpack Bundle is such a ridiculously good deal I can barely believe it, and the sheer convenience speaks for itself. I'm honestly astounded at how far it's come in such a short time. It may well be a good time to revisit this topic.
