Courtesy the Ohio State University Marching Band, the coolest video-game related thing you will see this week (also, ridiculously impressive technical achievement even if you, like me, don't know shit about how a Marching Band works...)
It's just playing an instrument and walking at the same time. Walking in a rhythmic manner at least.
I've done a marching band in middle school, and it was just us walking down a road for a pretty long time. Here, it's planned for people to walk in certain positions to make these images, and they're playing the music at the same time.
Plus, marching music has a distinct sound from other kinds of music. Marches are a lot more brass heavy(i.e. trumpets, trombones, tubas) with the percussion playing in a certain "marching" style. And woodwinds (clarinets, flutes saxophones) are more of the back up parts.
Well...maybe you learned something from me. I explained it as best as I could.
Anyways....HOLY SHIT, DUDE! THAT WAS FUCKING AMAZING!
I got to see them practice this from the window of my dorm :) Really good stuff, almost makes me wish I was at the game, but I had a Pokemon midnight release to go to.
Didn't something very similar to this happened before? I remember the youtube video that went viral was upside down because the guy filming was on the wrong side.
As someone who did marching band all 4 years of high school, that was awesome and brilliant. I remember one year where I tried suggesting "Chrono Trigger" music for one year's show, even played a few tracks. I was unfortunately shut down by the director. He didn't seem to think it was "real music". If he saw this, then I think he'd be changing his tune, so to speak. Thanks for sharing this, Bob. Totally made my night.
