Look, I appreciate and am grateful for people posting and linking the show throughout the web, but can I ask a small favor?
When you do, can we maybe NOT do it as part of an "eff you!" or "your opinion is WRONG, here's the RIGHT one!" thing on a forum or talkback or whatever? I appreciate the passion and enthusiasm, but when the show - and, by extension, *I* - get used in such a way, it reflects bad on the show and reflects bad on me. Y'know?
Especially since, regarding the "Other M" episode... I wasn't looking to "refute" or "take-down" any other game critic or site; mainly just respond to recurring message-board trolling and memes.
So... by all means, re-post... but let's all have some tact, eh? ;)

noted; hopefully people do the same with Yahtzee's review
After watching your video, you don't hate on other critics. Some people just won't like it, but just because they gave a story to Samus that made her seem more realistic, it isn't a reason to claim heresy. Love the videos and always look forward to the next one. Keep up the good work.
Ah, that's the spirit, xathirdwayx. Lol. No, I believe that we can be civil. Yahtzee? Bob? Both are great video game critics/commentators, and both have differing opinions on this game. Honestly? That is the whole point of discourse. None of us can agree completely, and that's why both videos are extremely important.
Hyperbole on the Internet is like gravity. Even if the speed of your initial throw wasn't enough to break grass, the stone will gain speed as soon as it leaves your hand.
I'm surprised people would use the Other M review to refute anything...
If somebody takes your review out of context, that’s their problem.
You've opened paradora's box mate. If you don't want the fire to spread then don't hold the matches.
There's a difference between donning the white knight outfit and charging into battle crying "BOB UBER ALLES!" and pointing out a potentially different opinion from a perspective that differs from that of the 'norm'. I'd like to think that most of your fans & supporters lean towards the latter side in such things.
There are some who are using your voice as a symbol of their opinion. Against others who are using Yahtzee, Malstrom, and that chick on G4. Some don't have the skill to express themselves. Still like you said their are those saying see Bob said so. When you are not trying to be the voice of a generation, but just one of many.
Psht!
Tact is for people who want to mount their posters without using tape or nails.
Oh, don't worry about that, I actually respect you and your reviews - although I do not always agree with you.
It's just that in your MetrOM video you made some pretty bold claims - not so much in defense of the game, but more by insulting the people that attacked it.
I can understand you did that partly for entertainment value, and it is clear that once it was linked elsewhere, people would backflame - like I did as well.
See it this way, I would have never ever bothered to backflame, if I did not truly think of you as kind of an awesome critic in other reviews.
Hey Bob,
On a related note, do you plan on reviewing Metroid: Other M's "Theater Mode" in one of your Movie Bob videos? Because I'd be curious if your opinion is based more on the risks that were taken to make the game or on the actual quality of the game's narrative and characterization.
Seems like since the developers specifically provided a film version of the game, it ought to be fair game (so to speak) for a film critic.
Hello! I never heard of your blog, but I've come over from Zero Punctuation just to laugh at you. LOL!
The few times I've posted the show on my site was because it was something I agreed with and wanted people to see. If I were to post one I disagreed with as part of an article, it would be an honest critique and disagreement, not an "FU" or "here's where your wrong" (in the latter's case, unless it hit a pet peeve, but my readers would know I'm a big fan the rest of the time and still not an "FU" moment).
yeah i posted it. All i said in the intail post was "Here read-" but okay.
Does this have something to do with the Zero Punctuation Review thread?
Bob, what the fuck did you expect. Your entire video is basic one big pile of troll shit. You make a sloppy one of tagging every dissenter as a racist and sexist all the while making a poor point that game's controllers are good because "th3y f33l like they us3 to wh3n I was a kid!"
This was probably your worse video because it really does feel more like enabling by allowing those who approve of the game to dismiss those as the above instead of a deep look into does interesting gameplay tramp an incredibly mediocre story nowadays.
Sorry Bob, but you opened the floodgates on this one. :) This is a really hot and divisive issue in hardcore gaming circles right now, and you jumped headlong into the fray in pretty much the most confrontational way possible. You didn't just disagree with the people who hate this game; you lumped them all under a giant banner of racism and sexism and shat all over their reasoning. Of course they're going to be upset. :)
For the record, I do agree with you on the gameplay side. I think the controls were a novel idea that mostly worked, but had a few issues that we could work out. My main issue was with the overall far too linear design, and real lack of morph ball utilization since it's a key Metroid element. For creative morph ball use in a 3D game, see the Prime series. I know you hated them, but I loved them. :)
@Bob
I find it kinda ironic how you constantly state that people in japan don't give two shits about fps's or the Xbox 360, and yet Halo Reach actually did very well in japan. What do you think about this?
to be honest bob your responses to in the give it a shot AND Heavens the Metroid thread were much more appreciated than the video by me. I kind of wish you had come in with that than the video as I don't see how else to take the video but as a response to those well disagreeing with you or arguing the point you seem to be arguing.
My only linking has been in a metroid thread at rpg.net and that was more a promoting of viewpoint.
Bob, while I understand and respect your opinion on this matter, and while I myself haven't posted any of your videos elsewhere, I have to be honest with you - the "Heavens to Metroid" review and a bunch of the other ones where you let your fan fanaticism obscure around 3/4 of the relevant information kind of deserve it.
I'm a fan, but as far as I'm concerned, "Heavens to Metroid" was an embarrassment. You neglected to mention - or were outright ignorant of - a great deal of information that would either have rendered a great deal of your points irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, factually incorrect, or just plain ignorant (especially - but not restricted to - Team Ninja bashing, in complete ignorance of the fact that in between the re-releases of Ninja Gaiden and DOA-related next-gen console ports, TN nearly got a full re-staffing all the way down to the management level after the old higher-up of the studio was fired by Tecmo).
I mean, you might not realize it or see it as a big deal, but I think there's a great deal of that review which can be refuted EASILY. It was sloppy, had a lot of sweeping generalizations, and hammered on incessantly about Team Ninja and the whole NES controller issue (and on that front, you neglect to bring up the sacrifices that had to be made in terms of gameplay to allow that to happen. Having played Other M I can tell you that it can't accomplish what Super Metroid can control-wise, regardless of flashy melee abilities).
This here post asking your fans not to post your vids around is wishful thinking, as far as I'm concerned. If you don't want your vids to reflect badly on you, then don't post vids that are riddled with loud arguments that miss the point. If anything else, others' criticisms of you, if listened to, learned from and honored in later videos, will help earn the respect of your fans, colleagues and rivals alike (remember when you did that with your whole "racism in Resident Evil" thing? That was something to be proud of, and your fans were proud of you :D ).
Please listen to me when I - a very big fan of yours - tell you not to let your internet celebrity and your fan fanaticism for certain things get in the way of your better judgment. The more you've been putting out lately, the less I see of that objective Bob who did his research and knew when it was about time to check his bias at the door.
And listen to your fans when we tell you not to post tripe like that again, because we know you can do better. You've done it before and you can do it again. :)
Best wishes and happy holidays (the NYCC is a holiday.... well for you guys anyway. It's work for me..... )
Sorry Bob, you're just not going to be left alone for this. You disagreed with YAHTZEE (unbelievable, how someone doesn't agree with his holiness, bastion of credibility and rationality), and you know what his fans are like.
You went a little early when doing a full character profile due to unfair bashing Other M. you made your point. It’s a wonder whenever we get some decent information something explodes. You would think she was involved with the people in Mission Impossible. As you stated Samus is starting to become obscure so they need to do something memorable, whether good or bad. This isn’t the first time they screw up a silent protagonist by making the character talk. We did get a good catch phrase for that character when he talked in the Zelda TV series, “Well excuuuuuse me princess.”

So you're saying everyone that thought Samus's character in Other M was a downgrade is a troll?
I'm sorry, but that just strikes me as really uncool. As good of a point as you made, people DO prefer Samus's character in the other game's to this one, some of them claiming that she is FIFTH-dimensional, letting the player of the game fill in the blanks for themselves, like other games do.
Seriously, though, you've got a bad habit of demonizing those who don't agree with you, and it's making you look real immature and even stooping down to their levels, so knock it off will you?
Bob, hey, I really love your videos, but uhh...
I really think you should do a follow-up on this video. Especially after reading this:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/wii/960554-metroid-other-m/reviews/review-142955
And please, PLEASE don't dismess this as "the trolls acting up", because these ARE legitimate complaints! You're the Game Overthinker, so overthink the story and characters that are in this game some more!
Beating a dead horse, sorry, but this guy is doing a retrospect on Metroid: Other M:

He was also offended by the fact that you're trying to refute the "trolls". Well who are these so called "trolls"? You mean anyone who was upset with Samus's character in Other M? That's... Kind of low, honestly.
