Not that I don't enjoy being a commentator as opposed to a straightforward critic, but sometimes you just want to review something. So I did, to a largely overlooked budget DS platformer called "Barnyard Blast." The only thing you really need to know is that it's hero is a pig who is also a cowboy and that it actually sets out to spoof "Castlevania" and "Ghosts n' Goblins."

You know, before this moment I have never really wanted a DS except fro the vague prospect that I might be able to play Chrono Trigger with one extra dungeon on it. But now, I think that I actually want a DS so that I can try out that game. I guess that the reason no shovelware game ever scores a flat zero is because someone, somewhere in the creation of that game has attempted to try and make something that's fun. Hell, if you got all the good bits from every crap game on Wii, you could make them into something better than Galaxy.
Wow. 2 posts in September. I am well pleased. :)
I'd been looking for something to pick-up and play for my DS. I'll keep my eyes open.
Dude, can you review Homie Rollerz? I heard that was the shiznit.
j/k, of course.
This game now deserves a look since I can get it for less than $10. Nice find.
nice to see a review, even if it's the only one you'll ever do. I don't have a DS, but it's good to hear that quality can be found in the most random of places - kind of reminds me about being a kid back in the NES days, before the internet and many actual review mags (remember when Nintendo Power was full of MAPS?). I bought more than one game because of the box art or other instincts, and some of those were great! Did you ever play Amagon? or Air Fortress?!
Oh, and for what its, your videos are every bit as good as Zero Punctuation and AVGN, and often better.
I don't own a DS but this review was entertaining. Keep up the good work!
Hi Bob
Thank you very much for reviewed our game, I never see any reviews that entertain this much before. :D
I am so happy that you understand our design. We actually never expect many people to understand what we did, but since we get good respond from many people, this will give us powers to come up with something crazy again in future.
PS: I am trying to convince my boss that the next Barnyard blast would be the first game that ranked as triple B game.
LOL at BBB titles
Well done once again.
I may have mentioned this before but... I could definitely watch one game overthinker every two weeks instead of once per month.
I don't think anyone will miss one MovieBob episode per month; more Game Overthinker!
Thing about the videos is, as I've always said, there's no schedule: They go up as I make them, and I make them as I have things to say.
Right now there are some things at play that I can't openly discuss yet that would probably make regular twice-monthly OverThinker eps fairly difficult, but I genuinely do appreciate that people would like the see this.
I know I'm a little late to the party on this video, but it's reminded me of a DS game that was released this year that, as far as I can tell, not many people bought.
That game is Henry Hatsworth and the Puzzling Adventure, which stars a very old adventurer setting out to collect pieces to a golden suit... and it's pretty funny!
The icing on the cake though is the gameplay. It combines some of the smoothest action/platforming with the amazing gameplay of Panel de Pon, and you do it all at the same time. If you haven't played it, I highly recommend it. It came out in the UK for only £20, which is cheap as chips for a brand new game.
I'd also like to say: I love your videos. As much as I love AVGN and Zero Punctuation, rather than trying to by LOL funny, you make me think a little more about the games I play, which I adore!
Keep up the awesome work! :3
you're review convinced me that even though this is a very low-profile game, it's merits make it every bit as high profile as New Super Mario Bros.
And I'm giddy over it's humor and how lighthearted it is. It's fun, pure and simple.
It kind of reminds me of another game I bought a little while ago, ever hear of Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie BBQ? It's too hilarious for me to explain here but it's a damn fun, and difficult vertical scrolling shooter.
Reviews like this show the real inadequacy of traditional rating systems.
A major contributing factor to the problems of our games media getting so hung up on the 7+ end of the scale, I think, is that it's very hard to tell someone that something is far from perfect, quantify that, but then tell them that its worth their money anyway.
Huh, maybe someone should do reviews based on $ value. How many MW2 reviews would state "$30, because the singleplayer is absolutely insipid and you're just here for multiplayer anyway?"
Thank you for the article, really useful data.
I just had to do this, but, this pig would make a good indiana jones; pig style!
