ANTITHINKER: Mega Man

update: as of 9/13/11 this video is at THIS LINK

I review a bunch of shitty old games about a blue robot.

Um... everybody else saw that shit at the end, right? Cuz that wasn't on there when I recorded it. That shit's fucked up right there.

  1. Once again, like the last antithinker episode, it was boring, vapid, and not at all the reason I visit this site. Unless this is something ScrewAttack put you up to, I'd suggest dropping the whole 'anti thinker' garbage before you lose a lot of viewers. And if ScrewAttack did put you up to this shit.. I recoomend you reevaluate your relationship with them.

    "GET ON WITH IT!"

  3. I doubt Stuttering Craig's some evil bureaucrat who enjoys dictating what people write, but whatever...

I honestly don't know what to say, mainly because I think I'm just reading too deep into this and am being too critical. Especially considering that what the Anthinker says, or at least a very small part of it, is right, according to you. So I'll save my comments until the next Game Overthinker episode, keep my firing pin primed, and keep an extra large eye open for instances where the grungier games are crucified.

  4. Haha, Glockman! Because the douchebags love guns and transformers! I laughed till I peed, keep going, this is hilarious!*

    *please don't

  5. I actually still enjoy bits of this antithinker business. But it may become tedious if kept up too long.

  6. Really looking forward to this whole "arc" being over and done with. But surely there's not one person who actually cares about seeing a fight scene at the end or whatever? I really wish Bob would just file this under "failed experiments" and move right on to the next Overthinker episode without comment, this shit just isn't working.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I do feel bad leaving a negative comment like this but like alot of the other fans i'm not sure i like this 'arc'.

    ReplyDelete
  8. did anyone read the disclaimer at the beginning of the movie? seriously?

  9. When this whole shtick is over and done with, it can join the annals as one of the worst ideas since Abraham Lincoln said “I’m tired of kicking about the house tonight, let’s go take in a show.”

  10. How did you manage to say the line, "I mean literally, it sucks so bad, I can't fathom how anybody let this shit happen" without irony?

  11. Looking forward to the return of the OverThinker. I think we all got the joke. It's a bit over the top and it's gone on just about long enough. I appreciate the underscoring of everything that's wrong with our culture, and I hope Bob doesn't lose too many viewers over it.

  12. oh~ great~ we can all finally get over with this A-hole~ anyway, still a lot of great points in this episode.

  13. Regression-to-retro games wouldn't bug me so much, if they didn't try to pass themselves off as canonical.
Also, surprised Antithinker didn't mention all the weird-ass Mega Man games on the Nintendo handhelds, the DS and whatnot. That is some extreme nerd stuff, like it's practically in D&D territory at times.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Psst... hey... everyone who hated this episode... watch to the very end...

    ReplyDelete
  15. Gee, people bitching about Bob, this is NOTHING new. It seems like him and Daniel get people bitching at them every day just so they can retreat into their protective microcosms.

Anyway, glad this is coming to an end. I am glad for the retro revival because it's hilarious how stuff like Mario Bros Wii can compete with the rehashed CoD franchise on an even level

  16. Man some of you guys need to chill! The Game Overthinker is a series. So if he decides to start talking about Barbie games. That's what he's going to do, and have every right too. Just don't watch it if it bothers you that much! If you want to learn the meaning of life. Step out and find out for yourself. Stop waiting for someone to tell you.

  17. There sure is a lot of hate. Glockman and "Other mm" made me laugh pretty hard.

  18. @A tribe called Helloween
Whoa dude, we know you aren't enjoying this but no need to be so rude about it.

Back on topic; Bob, while I enjoyed this the first few times I really believe the antithinker's overstayed his welcome. I'm all for trying new things but I really think that for the sake of you're show, you NEED to stop. This is ranked 6.6 in SA! You need to end this now or else you'll lose all but you're most loyal viewers. If you keep this up, eventually even going back to you're older format won't be enough to compensate for this. I myself may enjoy it to a certain degree but its obvious most people don't and I really don't want one of my favorite internet commentators being forced to retire the Overthinker just because of some comedy bit.

Then again thats just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I've been a GTO fanboy for a while, but my bullshit-o-meter can only take so much.

    @A Tribe Called Halloween
There is no denying that this is Bob's way of saying how much he hates FPS players.

    ReplyDelete
  21. @Reptile
And thats related to our comments how? I never asked why he was doing it or denied Bob's hatred of the FPS genre.

    Pardon my anger but,

I've really had it with people's complaints over Bob's opinion of the FPS genre. He doesn't like them you do, there can't we just leave it at that!?

Do you seriously think Bungie, Infinityward, Dice, Treyarch, Epic, Valve, or any of the other famous FPS developers saw this and were crushed by the idea that some guy somewhere doesn't like their games? The FPS genre does not need defending!

    ReplyDelete
  22. i know a lot of people just are discussing about the fact they hate the antithinker and such, but i must say i thought that megaman storyline bit was hilarious.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa...whoa
    There's a new Adventure Island??
I'm learning this just now WHY?!!

In some unrelated news, I wish Santa brought me a Mega Man for Christmas.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Hmmmm....
I wonder what the Antithinker would think of a franchise like say, Devil May Cry.
He'd probably bash on Dante's hair and choice of fashion and hate it just for that. He'd probably also think it's too hard.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Anti-thinker was an... interesting experiment, but I'm glad Overthinker is coming back.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I wasn't sure how much I'd enjoy this story when you first got into it, but at this point I'd have to say that it's been really fun so far! I should've known I'd like it in the first place since you were setting up for some sweet satire.

    I'm a sucker for satire.

    ReplyDelete
  27. We GET it, you're an insecure nerd. However, you know something? Fuck you for using this character to talk about the retro revival. I love my old DOS, 8-bit and 16-bit games too but these cheap retro throwbacks ARE a problem. I love the old characters of course, but I like innovation too... I want Super Mario Galaxy 2, not New Super Mario Bros.

    ReplyDelete
  28. We finally reached the point where the Antithinker is making perfectly solid, if poorly worded points better than the Overthinker ever could. It's always awesome when the strawman turns out to be more right than the person who made it.

If you're seriously going to film a fight scene though then can I just like. Ask that instead of doing that, you don't do that? Please don't do do that.

    ReplyDelete
  29. @Daniel

That's why I said last time that @Reptile is actually an alias that Bob uses in his comment section to generate more comments. I am sure of it.

    ReplyDelete
  30. @Caio, I didn't want to buy into that theory, but the latest "Big Picture" might just be giving that some credence :P

    ReplyDelete
  31. And in local news, I heard MAGFest was amazing. Makes me want to prepare for PAX East 2011.

But, as far as this series goes, well, in the end, no one will get what they want. I blame Keavy Rain for attempting to "Overthink" the Overthinker. Yea, not helping.

But, I'll just sit back and see where this goes. But I do wonder, for all those who have been watching since day 1, where do you think Bob went wrong, in your eyes? I really don't think he has. If anything, he was forced to admit that he makes these vids as opinion vids to stir up controversy (thanks again for that, Keavy. Ironically, after saying so, you still weren't happy). So, yea, what went wrong to you all?

  32. @twinsaneincarnation
You know u fail at life when u bash on someone who is trying to protect his favorite genre ever.

    ReplyDelete
  33. @Gene

I posted my last comment before watching the latest The Big Picture, and since I've watched it, I am as certain as it is possible to be.

Bob is @Reptille, he said it himself.

    =D

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh for pete's sake...

At the risk of breaking character, the thing at the end of Big Picture was making fun of a conspiracy theorist named David Icke. I'm not "Reptile," I never have been, and quite frankly if I was I hope I'd have had the decency to "play" a version of an obnoxious troll that was at least interesting. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hey, Reptille is interesting! Part of the reason I read the comment section is to find out how is he going to twist the content of every video into a message of hatred towards the fps genre or hadcore gamers.

    That's actually pretty artistic.

    ReplyDelete
  36. How come everyone is bashing Reptile for defending FPS's? No one seems to bash Bob for defending Nintendo.

    ReplyDelete
  37. @Bob
Are u saying Reptile is a troll? Sorta like how you are.

    ReplyDelete
  38. @Caio

Okay, new theory. @Reptile isn't Bob's alternate account, he's actually a suppressed personality locked away in the furthest reaches of Bob's psyche. Once Bob posts a video Reptile takes over, logs in, and posts a comment.

HA, Hows THAT for a conspiracy theory Bob ;)

Oh yeah; also @Vietnam is Reptile's alternate account, they have the same exact habits
i.e. the second comment made almost immediately after the first, the ultra-devoted FPS love, and they both use COD perks as profile pictures.... Just calling a spade a spade.

    ReplyDelete
  39. as nearly as i can tell, the caricature of the antithinker is you preaching to the choir, good idea, funny, interesting point(s) but nobody who watches this are ankithinkers anyway

  40. The MIT Mystery Hunt was video-game themed this year (Peach is Kidnapped and Mario has to follow her through 6 video game worlds to rescue her: Mario, Mega Man, Zelda, Civilization, Katamari, and Portal). In particular, the second round of puzzles involved fighting Doctor Wily's new Robot Masters, pretty amazing/difficult stuff.

  44. Wow overthinkers fans are like todays sonic fans. Always bitching and moaning if it's not exactly the way you want it. For God sakes grow a pair and stop crying, It's his show and sure this anti thinker mini series is obnoxious and doesn't quite make most "LOL" but seriously cut the guy a brake cause you cry babies aren't gonna change anything if your sick of the anti thinker that's cool, but please have some patience and try to find some enjoyment in case you guys forgot it's only temporary.

    ReplyDelete
  45. You carry a good point. Your wording sucks, and I'm pretty sure that half the people that read it will probably ignore it completely because of how confrontational it is and how shortsighted it feels (im teh hammar of justece, raaaawr), but you carry a good point.

It's redundant to hear "This episode sucks!" among other things in the comments. You're also right that he probably won't change much about his show. He listens to the comments though, and if he doesn't change his views because of them, that's probably for a reason. I still don't know if he always did, or if it's recent, but I do know I've dealt some low blows in an attempt to mirror his own, or at least, what I thought the appropriate opposite would be.

There's a reason I still watch this series, despite being the complete opposite of a retro gamer. I used to think it was because I was hoping for something better. It's not. It's because I like trying to dive into his psyche and trying to figure out why he just said what he said, because, to be honest, it's alittle hard to simply overthink the guy. Moreover, I like finding holes in his arguments, though I do tend to focus solely on them, and counter them. Then I get to argue with other commenters because that's usually the point where I said something I shouldn't have. Which is when I say more things I shouldn't be saying.

Also. Reptile's not a troll. Seriously. He plays CoD, and while I don't, his views count too. To be honest, I stay away from competitive multiplayer, and have been, overall, for about a year if you don't count the excitement of BFBC2 before people started writing guides for it. Still. He has a point with first person shooters capable of being a truly immersive experience. MW2 was as great of a game it was not because of the mass murder, it was because it knew how to use the first person perspective to tell a story, and tell it well. Like the first, it made me care about the characters, much moreso than any RPG I own ever could have. That may not be true for a good number of people out there, but whatever.

    @I Luv Vietnam
Kind of, but he probably isn't being too serious.

    @Everyone else
You bet your ass when the next episode airs, I'm going to continue to post counterarguments, and continue to say what I have to say, be it right, wrong, or another crazy theory that may just be on to something. Maybe, just maybe, I'll find some common ground again.

    ReplyDelete
  46. ...So uh... question? What part of the near one-hundred negative comments from the last video made you think it was a good idea to KEEP doing that? I really wanna know... really, what part?

    ReplyDelete
  47. No one is a "troll" because of their opinion.

Spamming comments onto every post - including ones that are on entirely-different sites and have nothing to do with what you're ranting about - is being a troll.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm guessing Bob finally got wind of those comments Reptile was leaving on this other blogspot for his movies. Why leave them? To get Bob's attention in order to argue more of the points he's made. That's why Reptile is a "troll" to Bob. He or she is leaving comments in areas pertaining to Bob that don't pertain to Overthinker. My my, 2011 will be the year of controversy. My brother was right. It's gonna get interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  49. @Bob
You almost never respond to comments, I guess he just wasn't sure if you got the message.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Look, here's the #1 to get me to NOT respond to something:

Continually asking why I "hate" or am "biased against" something when I've already made what I consider to be a fairly concerted attempt to point out that I DON'T "hate" it.

I'm open to discussing anything with anyone, time and workload permitting. But no, I'm not going to get into it when someone's sole contribution to the discourse is "Waaaaah! You 'hate' something I like!" And doing it a hundred times isn't going to make it any more likely.

    ReplyDelete
  51. @Bob
This is totally unrelated by why do you think we have so many movies that are against war, and so many games that promote war?

    ReplyDelete
  52. as hard as it must be on you bob, im glad that everyone is sounding off with their feelings about the antithinker. We should love hating him, instead were all just bored. Your commentary on video games is some of the best on the web, and i can't wait for you to get back to it, provoking thought, and inspiring individuals like myself to better the industry and community. We miss you Bob.

    ReplyDelete
  53. @Roderick
I myself complain because i care, because i feel this is a bad direction for the show. it is not only my right but my responsibility to give my opinion since i am part of the viewership, and without an audience, the show would not exist, at least not with as big an audience. Its almost contradictory to tell us to stop the criticism when bobs show is all about criticism and commentary. We would be doing bob a disservice not telling him what we think of his show, its how he keeps in touch with us and how we communicate with one another.

    ReplyDelete
  54. @Twinmill

If the first few paragraphs were about my comment then I say thanks but no I'm on my high horse I just try to walk in the gray. And yeah I guess I came on kinda strong, but I was annoyed.

    @jay
I admire your passion for the series and I enjoy giving an receiving criticism( intelligent criticism). But this isn't for people who don't like the last few episodes and explaining WHY,it's to people who are complaining and threatening to leave as if this is his new shtick. At least you leave constructive reasons why you think this is a no go. sometimes people forget that people who entertain are still human, no one can please everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  55. So wait if the antithinker says he hates it, does that mean the overthinker loves it? I played megaman until my thumb started bleeding back in the day :D. Best nintendo game ever.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I think the problem here is that we as an audience have come to expect that The Game Overthinker give us an intellectual analysis of games, and the culture of games in a reasoned, rational manner and instead as of late we have been served straw man fallacies (i.e the entire Other M episode), followed up by a character that anthropomorphizes the straw man fallacy.

I mean that's all the Anti-thinker is. A Straw man for anybody who disagrees with Bob's analysis. Am I wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Pretty helpful data, thank you for the article.
