I'd Buy It

Inspired by a Twitter exchange about whether or not the elephant-monster in the new "God of War" E3 trailer was supposed to be Ganesh, and the attendant prospect of Kratos engaging pantheon's of gods from still-active religions:

  1. that'd be hilarious. I'm still wondering when someone's gonna do a hack and slash based off of Norse mythology. Seriously, Norse heroes and gods like Arngrim, Sigurd, and so on make the Spartans look like a bunch of pansies.

Also, funny story; on Sony's official youtube they had a video for their SSB clone that was literally tagged with Smash Brothers. Ummm....oops.

  2. Also, I'm pretty sure if Kratos met some of the gods and heroes from Hindu texts like the Bhagavad Gita he'd piss himself. Hindu gods were FREAKY.

They did. It was called Too Human. It wasn't good.

  5. The Judeo Christian religion actually DOES have some good lore behind it to make a cool game. Think EVANGELION but more monsters and psychic powers and fewer giant robots and angst ridden teens.

  6. I would definitely like to see a game that pitted a bunch of religious pantheons against each other. The Monkey King vs. Thor vs. Shiva would be pretty fun. Maybe something like Fate/Extra or Fate/Unlimited Codes. I've always thought is weird that Capcom couldn't think of a way to market a game where King Arthur, Gilgamesh, Hercules, and Cu Chulain fight each other with "the weight of their legends". It's like SSB for folklore nerds. The classic Shin Megami Tensei series sort of has the same thing going on, but it's less visceral and (understandably) ignores a lot of western folklore to focus on east asian stuff. How about a Super Robot Wars game where Jesus, Muhammad, and Gautama Buddha have to team up to fight Angra Mainyu?

  10. hmmmmm I don't mean to be the killjoy, but the one thing that made this offensive to me was the fact that the weapon Kratos is holding is what I would assume to be the spear of Longinus (the weapon the romans used to pierce Jesus' side to make sure he was dead). Something about that just irked me and made it more than a joke. I guess you could say that I shouldn't be offended when you kill thousands of people and some gods from a different religion, but I am.
